The plot of Simulated Insanity takes place near the end of the Revelation short story.

A particularly diligent agent of the Institute for the Control of Entities of Non-biological Origin(ICENO) was sent to conduct an inspection of the Construct, an artificial planet with augmented reality capabilities built into every detail. It was the most ambitious attempt to build a world in which the very laws of physics could be manipulated at will.

Before going inside the Construct for his detailed inspection of the ENOs that ran the virtual environment, the Agent met with the Architects to validate their ENO license in accordance with ICENO regulations. During the meeting, certain aspects of the Architects and their artificial minds give the Agent a bad feeling.

As he inspects the Construct, his suspicion grows. However, when the fabric of reality can be easily bent, the line between real and virtual becomes irrelevant.
